For me, a filmmaker from the Netherlands, that dream has always been clear: I wanted to become a YouTuber. But like many, I let self-doubt hold me back until one day, a simple mindset shift changed everything.

The Creative Spark

As a kid, I was always building and creating—Legos, dominoes, even imaginary theme parks. But when I discovered video, it felt like magic. It combined creativity with storytelling in a way that nothing else could.

I started with Lego stop-motion films, silly skits with friends, and eventually vlogs. After high school, my passion turned into a career, evolving into a creative video agency. Small jobs turned into bigger ones, and soon, I was working with major brands.

But as the projects grew, so did the compromises. What I once saw as opportunities—bigger budgets, prestigious clients—started to feel like limitations. I realized I was drifting away from why I started creating in the first place.

The Dream Revisited

Amid this realization, the dream of being a YouTuber resurfaced. YouTube felt like the perfect outlet for my passion—raw, personal, and creative. But every time I thought about starting, self-doubt would creep in:

  • What will people think?

  • What if it’s not good enough?

  • Am I too late? Too old?

These thoughts paralyzed me, turning into excuses that pushed my dream further away.

The Turning Point

The breakthrough came when I decided to let go of the dream entirely. At first, it felt freeing—no pressure, no expectations. But three little letters kept haunting me: Why?

Why did I want to be a YouTuber so badly? When I stripped away the surface-level desires—success, fame, financial independence—I found a simpler truth:

I love creating. I love telling stories.

That’s it.
