Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024: The Ultimate Ultra-Slim Laptop
Unleashing Power and Portability: The 2024 Huawei MateBook X Pro
This is the 2024 Huawei MateBook X Pro. It isn’t just a beautiful and extremely slim laptop that weighs under 1 kg, but it also packs incredible performance that I have yet to see on laptops like this. This machine is powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor and Huawei’s Super Turbo technology, paired with 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 2 TB of storage. It is an exciting product that I’ve been using for two weeks, and here’s all you need to know about it.
Let’s start off by talking about how Huawei managed to achieve such a slim design and weight reduction on the MateBook X Pro compared to the previous model. The new MateBook X Pro is significantly lighter at just 980 grams compared to the previous 1.38 kg. This weight reduction is the result of Huawei’s meticulous effort to optimize individual components, including a flexible OLED display that reduces weight by 142 grams. Other factors contributing to weight reduction include a lighter aluminum keyboard, display hinge, cooling fans, and the use of a copper foil battery. These components collectively reduce the weight of the MateBook X Pro to under 1 kg.
To fit these components in a tight space, Huawei introduced an innovative Huawei Falcon Club architecture featuring a three-segment piece PCB design. Compared to conventional single PCB designs, it uses 8% less space, allowing more efficient stacking of components. This additional space is used for fitting a large 71Wh battery, dual-shocking cooling fans, and six speakers. This results in a 13.5mm slimness that has never been achieved on an ultra-slim Windows laptop before.
There are many things to love about the MateBook X Pro’s exterior that you wouldn’t find on other similar-class laptops. It has the iconic wedge design that the current MacBook Air no longer comes with, making it easy to store in a sleeve. I also love the smooth matte finish that Huawei has applied to the magnesium alloy chassis. This premium material is less dense yet stronger and more robust than aluminum and steel. Plus, it doesn’t attract fingerprints and smudges, and when you rest your palm on it, it feels extremely comfortable without being freezing cold when using it in an air-conditioned room.
The MateBook X Pro delivers an excellent productivity and media consumption experience with its 14.2-inch flexible OLED screen that boasts a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 93% screen-to-body ratio. This is great for browsing content, as it offers more vertical space. It also has an excellent peak brightness of 1,000 nits and covers 100% of the Adobe RGB color space, making every piece of content pop with accurate colors. This extremely bright display also features an anti-reflective coating, offering great visibility when used in bright outdoor environments.
To complete the entertainment experience, the Huawei MateBook X Pro features a six-speaker Huawei Sound system that produces incredibly immersive and punchy sound that you wouldn’t find on ultra-slim laptops like this. Here’s how they sound. The webcam of the Huawei MateBook X Pro looks absolutely gorgeous with its 1080p resolution. However, what’s even more impressive is its AI noise cancellation technology on its microphones, effectively canceling out ambient noise, whether you’re working in a cafe or on a busy street during a conference call. It also has a Sound True HD enhancement that captures surrounding sounds for a realistic conversation experience.
What makes the Huawei MateBook X Pro great to work with is its excellent keyboard, which offers a really good typing experience with great key travel and standard-sized keycaps. The trackpad is large enough for gestures and offers precise tracking. What makes it even better is the support for hand and knuckle gestures, allowing you to easily adjust screen brightness and speaker volume by swiping up and down on the left and right sides, respectively, and take a screenshot with two knocks of your knuckles.
Of the many ultra-slim laptops I have reviewed in the past, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is the only ultra-slim laptop powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 H-series processor with AI capabilities. It can handle AAA game titles without compromising too much on graphic quality. I ran games such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal, and Cyberpunk 2077, and the MateBook X Pro handled them well with no performance throttling. Even when it comes to creative workflows, I had no issues scrubbing through my 4K video project on Adobe Premiere Pro. It exported my 5-minute 4K video project in less than 6 minutes, which is very acceptable considering it is using the integrated GPU.
Finally, what most impressed me was the laptop’s thermal and ventilation systems. While the CPU can get really toasty under full load, heat is dissipated effectively through the back, keeping the keyboard and palm area cool so your hands wouldn’t get scalded while working on CPU-intensive tasks. With such powerful performance and a comfortable computing experience, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is truly designed for creative and business professionals on the go.
The Huawei MateBook X Pro comes packed with several AI capabilities that enhance productivity. Starting with the pre-installed WPS Office, which has a generative AI feature that can help write documents with just a single prompt,. It can also summarize the content of lengthy PDF documents, saving you time from reading them. The laptop’s webcam also boasts helpful AI image enhancement features such as subject tracking and eye contact. Microsoft Co-Pilot is a super powerful tool that lets you generate content with a few prompts and grabs queries from the web for any information you ask for. AI Search lets you search files and photos on both your laptop and across your Huawei smartphone and tablets. Super Hub offers a temporary space for storing images and files that can be accessed between connected devices, while Super Device allows for multi-screen collaboration between the MateBook X Pro and other Huawei devices.
Huawei claims up to 7 hours of battery life on the MateBook X Pro, which is very impressive considering it has power-hungry components. The laptop can also charge quickly with 90W Huawei SuperCharge, reaching up to 80% in 30 minutes. This is really useful when I have a heavy workday and forget to charge the laptop at times.
With so much power and AI features packed into a 980g form factor, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is unrivaled in its class. It is by far the most exciting ultra-slim laptop that we have seen this year. The Huawei MateBook X Pro is now available for pre-order with free gifts worth up to $4582 at Huawei’s official website and Huawei flagship stores nationwide. So, definitely go check it out. That’s all for the Huawei MateBook X Pro. Let me know what you guys think in the comments, and thanks for watching. I’ll see you in the next one!
