Exploring the Pros and Cons of Roofing Sales as a Career Choice
So, is roofing sales a good career? Maybe you found out about roofing sales through a friend, saw an ad online, or stumbled upon these videos on YouTube or the podcast. Now, you start wondering: Is this business for me? Is roofing sales a good career? What are the pros? What are the cons? And what should I expect? Well, that’s what I’m going to cover in this video. I made this video for the folks who might be questioning whether or not they’re in the right business. I want to highlight these pros and cons to help you decide. Join me all the way through to the end, and you will leave this video knowing: Is roofing sales a good career for you?
Let’s get to it. First, a quick welcome or welcome back. Adam Desmond is here, the roof strategist. Everything I do here on my channel is designed to help you and your team smash your income goal and give every customer an amazing experience. Lately, I’ve been hearing folks at training events; in fact, I was just out in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and someone came up to me saying they got into the business because of my videos. They found them on YouTube and ended up landing a career with a company, making incredible money and life-changing opportunities. Another gentleman out in Dallas, Texas, had a similar story. These success stories are what keep me going. But it’s not for everybody.
So, before we get into the pros and cons, I’m going to start with the cons and the negatives. I want to share with you a quick version of my story. I drank the Kool-Aid that many of us are told — this poisonous lie: do what you’re passionate about in life, you’ll make money, and you’ll be happy. That’s garbage. I ended up going to massage therapy school because I was into natural medicine. Long story short, I was earning under $20,000 a year, barely making ends meet. My breaking point came during a family holiday when I couldn’t afford gas to visit my family. That’s when I got a reality check from my stepdad about the earning potential in roofing sales. I took the leap, and the rest is history.
Now, let’s dive into the cons of the roofing industry before we hit the pros. Con number one: You will be your own worst enemy. Roofing sales challenges you in ways you won’t face in a cubicle job. Number two: It’s not consistent. If you need a steady paycheck every week, this isn’t for you. Number three: Benefits are rare. While some companies are starting to offer them, don’t count on it. Number four: Finding the right company can be tough. Not every culture is a good fit. Number five: Roofing sales are not for everybody. It requires a specific set of traits to succeed. Number six: About 66% of roofing salespeople quit or get fired in their first year. It’s not easy. Number seven: A mindset shift is required to be successful. You have to think like a business owner.
Now, let’s move on to the pros. Pro number one: You get to set your own pay. It’s empowering. Pro number two: Earning crazy amounts of money is possible. The sky’s the limit. Pro number three: You can get started and experience success fast. Pro number four: The fast-paced nature of the business keeps things exciting. Pro number five: There’s no cubicle. You’re out in the field, seeing new places. Pro number six: The industry is addicting. You’ll find yourself wanting to work more. Pro number seven: Roofing sales are personal development in disguise. It’s a journey of self-improvement.
In conclusion, roofing sales can be a lucrative and rewarding career for those who are willing to put in the effort and embrace the challenges. It’s not for everyone, but for those who thrive in a fast-paced, commission-based environment, it offers unparalleled opportunities for success. Whether you decide to pursue roofing sales or not, I hope this video helped you gain clarity on what path is right for you. Remember, success is within reach if you’re willing to chase it.
