As a family medicine doctor, it is so important for patients of ours to come in for both their physical health and their mental health. Not having, you know, dealt with mental issues can be very detrimental to physical health as well. Anxiety and depression have been just rising in the U.S. population in the past few years, and a lot of times they are underdiagnosed because of either patients not knowing the signs or not letting their providers know.

Whether it’s from something stressful, postpartum, or just general anxiety or depression, it’s important to kind of know some of the signs and be able to come to your provider and let them know.

Some things you may be experiencing are, of course, feeling nervous, feeling anxious, feeling tired all the time, not wanting to do the things you usually want to do, having a decreased appetite, and things like that. If any of those symptoms are ones that you’re feeling or things are just different, then please let your provider know because there are definitely options, both medical therapy and others, that can help you kind of get through all those symptoms.

Your mental health is so important, and without that being in a good place, your physical health won’t be either.
